Self-Care: Unplug and Unwind
"Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare."
-Audre Lorde

I am writing this week's self care post from my beautiful rental in Costa Rica. This has been the most amazing and relaxing vacation I've had in a while. The view is beautiful, the house is gorgeous. This trip has been so much more than I could have ever imagined. Traveling is without a doubt, my favorite form of self-care. But this trip has really been about unplugging, unwinding and appreciating the stillness in life.

Oftentimes we get too caught up in our lives to take the breaks we need. We get our emails to our phones, our jobs constantly have access to us, family and friends require our undivided attention. We have so much going on that we forget to take time for ourselves. For me, this vacation has been all about self-care. No work emails, no calls from either job. This blog post is the most work I'm doing this week. I have stayed still, enjoyed the beauty that nature has to offer. I can truly say that I have relaxed.

Even if you don't have the time or means to travel to a far off place to relax, you can still take the time to do it at home. Take a stay-cation, explore some different places in your area. Take a spa day or go to the golf range. Go outside and play with the kids or the dog or get a sitter and have a mommy or daddy day. Be still. Enjoy the peace in your life. It is so important to take breaks from life and completely unplug. Tomorrow I'm making my way back to the real world. I'll set my phone up to receive emails from both jobs. I'll be on call when needed for both jobs and for family and friends. But for the rest of the day, I'll enjoy this peace and stillness.
